Love Your Routine
I’ve just returned from three weeks of vacation. They were delightful days: lots of time with family, dear friends, nature, sunshine, fun, and a good digital detox. A pause that brought me lightness and reconnection. But the biggest insight came when I got back. I realized that, although breaking out of routine is wonderful, loving your routine is even more powerful.
Because the truth is, if we don’t love our own routine, maybe we’re not loving our own life. After all, that’s where everything happens. It’s in the simple and the repetitive that the soul expresses itself.
Life doesn’t happen only on trips, during transformative retreats, or on special weekends. It pulses on a Tuesday afternoon, when you make coffee, reply to an email, tidy up the house, put your child to sleep, or take a deep breath before a meeting. And when we reject the routine, we end up rejecting the very stage where real life unfolds.
Many people associate routine with boredom, limitation, or imprisonment. But the problem isn’t the routine itself, but the lack of intention within it. When we build our routine consciously, it stops being a burden and becomes a foundation: it sustains our health, relationships, work, inner life, spirituality, and well-being.
Another important point: there’s no such thing as a perfect routine. It’s alive and needs to follow the cycles of life, the body, and the soul. And that’s also part of loving your routine: allowing adjustments without guilt.
Today, after so many experiences in my own self-knowledge journey, and after witnessing transformations in the people I work with, I see how a well-cared-for routine (with simple practices of presence, organization, and self-care) can be fertile ground for growth and real change.
That’s why I want to share with you the 5 pillars that help me most to love my routine:
1. Alignment with What Matters
I’ve learned that a routine only makes sense when it reflects my current values and needs. Family, presence, physical activity, healthy eating, harmony, purposeful work, moments of silence—they all need to have real space in my week. When what is essential is present, everything flows more smoothly.
2. Small Rituals
It’s not always possible to do big practices, but small, intentional gestures shift the energy field. A meal prepared mindfully, a breath before sitting at the computer, saying affirmations in the shower… it’s these micro-acts that reconnect me to myself.
3. Organizing by Energy Blocks
Instead of following endless to-do lists, I’ve learned to organize my days by thematic blocks, respecting the kind of energy each activity requires. Creating, meeting with clients, studying, silence, physical activity… each has its space. This brings me more clarity and presence and helps me stay focused instead of getting scattered in a thousand directions at once.
4. Boundaries and Non-negotiables
Setting boundaries is an act of love for our time. When we don’t, our time ends up being taken over by other demands. And, with a routine full of unpredictability—like mine, with two small children—I’ve learned to identify what’s essential (non-negotiable) to sustain my energy. And what’s non-negotiable changes over time, so it’s important to revisit it often. Today, for example, my non-negotiable is getting a good night’s sleep. I know that if I don’t rest enough, I wake up tired, with a foggy mind, and that impacts my whole day. For you, it might be a peaceful meal, a moment of silence, or a screen-free pause before bed. The important thing is to recognize what sustains you and protect it with care.
5. Nourishing Breaks
I’ve learned that I don’t need to wait for a retreat or a long break to reconnect. Sometimes it’s a quiet walk, upbeat music while I cook, or a shower in the dark that makes all the difference. These little pauses throughout the week act as mini internal vacations and remind me that routine can also be a space of pleasure, presence, and well-being.
When lived with intention, routine becomes one of the most powerful places for the soul’s expression.
So, how about carrying this affirmation with you?
“I choose to love my routine, because it is where my life happens. I bring presence to what I do. I turn the ordinary into the sacred. My routine is a living field where my soul flourishes. ”
